Dana Kotler uses human movements to create elaborate compositions that evoke visceral reaction. Her solo works incorporate complex, indirect patterns, and her more recent works reach out to the audience, drawing them into the emotion and the physicality of the performers, showing them that movement is inherently human, and common to all of us.
“I study the human body’s tendency towards particular movement patterns. As a dancer and physician, I look at movement with an analytical eye, as well as from an internal perspective. I see the body as an intricate world of potential that tends to fall into predictable patterns, sometimes efficient, and sometimes destructive. When these are recognized, they can be acknowledged and/or altered. My work encompasses science and performance, bringing data and emotion together.”
